London's oldest family run restaurant

Spanning six decades and four generations, Il Portico has been cooking regional & wild food since it was first opened by Pino Chiavarini. Still managed to this day by the same family, James and Marianna draw heavily from their ancestors influence by providing simple, authentic Italian food from their home region of Emilia Romagna.

Pino the original owner now runs the family farm in Kent where much of our produce is sourced, including our specialty of wild game.

Wood fired Osteria & Pizzeria

Pizzicotto is the little sister to il Portico. There is heavy emphasis on the ‘Terra Madre’ of Emilia Romagna with a tight network of small scale and artisanal food producers from the region supplying us exclusively and directly. On any given day you can find charcuterie produced by the same family for over 235 years, rare breed & wild produce, organic beers & biodynamic wines.

Our Pizze are made exclusively with stone ground, organic flour, & proofed for a full 72 hours ensuring a complex, light, and delectable base. All before wood firing at 400 degrees.

We also operate a Click and Collect service. You can select this option at checkout.
We currently offer free delivery on all orders to W8, W11 & W14.
Delivery for all other orders is free over £60.

We will bring back our Home James service as soon as possible.
You order, we prepare and deliver to you nationwide.


Famiglia Portico is the mother group of il Portico, Pizzicotto and Home James shop.

For 4 generations the Chiavarini family have been cooking Italian specialities from Emilia Romagna in London. Our first restaurant il Portico, was part of the original wave of Italian restaurants that opened in the 1960’s. It proudly continues to this day as London’s oldest family run restaurant. In 2015 we opened ‘Pizzicotto’ next door, inspired by the neighbourhood Pizzerie and Osterie of Italy, where wood fired organic pizzas, sit alongside rare breed Charcuterie, hand made pastas and Italian cocktails.

Home James, our excellent delivery service, was launched in 2020 to provide our favourite dishes to enjoy at home. With everything made by hand in our kitchens, we can deliver nationwide. My wife Marianna and myself are here to welcome you in, and our chef Eduardo (now in his 32nd year of service with us) is always here to ensure you’re well fed.  

My father Pino, 81 years young, now runs the family farm in Kent, where much of our organic produce is sourced, including our speciality of wild game and foraged foods. We very much look forward to welcoming you in.
